HEIC to JPG in one sentence. Drop your iPhone HEIC photos into the tool above, pick JPG or PNG, then download each image, a ZIP of all of them, or a single PDF. Everything runs in your browser — photos never leave your device, and the GPS location is stripped automatically. Free, no sign-up, no limits.

What is a HEIC file, and why convert it?

HEIC is the image format iPhones and iPads have used by default since iOS 11. It stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG with the same quality, thanks to the modern HEIF/HEVC compression. The catch: outside Apple's ecosystem, HEIC often won't open — Windows, Android, many websites, and older apps simply don't support it.

Converting HEIC to JPG fixes that. JPG opens on every device, browser, and app on earth, so a converted photo can be uploaded to a form, emailed, posted, or edited anywhere. You trade a little file size for universal compatibility — usually exactly what you want when sharing a photo outside your iPhone.

Why "no upload" matters most for photos

A photo is one of the most private files you own. An iPhone HEIC embeds EXIF metadata that can include the exact GPS coordinates where it was taken, the date and time, and the device. Uploading it to a converter means handing all of that — your location history included — to someone else's server.

This tool converts entirely in your browser, so your photos never leave your device. And because the conversion re-encodes each image, the original GPS and EXIF metadata is dropped from the output — so the JPG you share doesn't quietly carry your home address with it. Local processing plus automatic metadata stripping is double privacy protection.

How to convert HEIC to JPG in 4 steps

  1. 1

    Add your HEIC photos

Drag your iPhone photos onto the box above or click to browse. Add as many as you like — nothing is uploaded, the files are read locally.

  2. 2

    Choose JPG or PNG

Pick JPG for the smallest, most compatible files, or PNG if you need lossless quality. For JPG, set the quality with the slider.

  3. 3

    Click Convert

Your browser decodes each HEIC photo locally using WebAssembly. A batch of photos finishes in a few seconds.

  4. 4

Download images, a ZIP, or a PDF

Download each photo, grab all of them in one ZIP, or bundle the whole batch into a single PDF — all without leaving the page.

HEIC vs JPG: what changes when you convert?

HEIC and JPG each have strengths. The table shows what you gain and give up by converting.

AspectHEIC (iPhone)JPG (converted)
File sizeAbout half the size for the same quality.Larger, but still reasonable.
CompatibilityApple-only; often fails on Windows, Android, web.Opens everywhere, on every device.
Image qualityExcellent at small sizes.Very good; visually identical at high quality.
Editing & uploadsRejected by many editors and upload forms.Accepted by virtually every app and site.
Embedded GPS / EXIFCarries location and camera metadata.Stripped during conversion here.

Convert to JPG whenever a photo needs to leave your iPhone — to be shared, uploaded, edited, or opened on a non-Apple device. Keep the HEIC original if you only ever view it on Apple devices and want to save space.

Common HEIC conversion scenarios cheat sheet

Six situations cover most reasons people convert HEIC. The table shows the best settings for each.

ScenarioSettingsResult
Photos won't open on WindowsJPG · 92%Universally viewable images.
Upload to a website or formJPGAccepted everywhere.
Email a batch of photosJPG · Download ZIPOne archive, smaller files.
Need lossless or transparencyPNGFull-quality images.
Archive photos as one fileConvert · Download as PDFA single shareable PDF.

If you're unsure, JPG at 92% is the right answer for almost everything — small, sharp, and openable anywhere. Reach for PNG only when you specifically need lossless quality.

Common HEIC problems and how to fix them

Windows shows a blank or won't open the HEIC

Windows has no built-in HEIC decoder, so File Explorer and most apps can't read it. Converting to JPG here produces a file Windows opens natively — no codec packs or extensions to install.

A website rejected my iPhone photo

Many upload forms only accept JPG or PNG and silently reject HEIC. Convert the photo to JPG first, and it will be accepted the same way any other image is.

I want to keep the quality but lose the location data

Use JPG at 95–100% quality (or PNG for lossless). Either way, conversion here re-encodes the image, so the GPS coordinates and other EXIF metadata are dropped from the result automatically.

I have hundreds of photos to convert

Add them all at once — there's no file-count limit because everything runs locally. When they're done, use Download all as ZIP instead of saving each one by hand.

5 pro tips for converting HEIC photos

01

JPG at 92% is the sweet spot

It's visually identical to the original for sharing, while keeping files small and universally compatible.

02

Batch, then ZIP

Drop a whole camera roll in at once and download them together in one ZIP instead of one at a time.

03

Bundle into a PDF

Need to send a set of photos as one file? Convert, then Download as PDF for a single tidy document.

04

Sharing strips your location

Because conversion drops EXIF, the JPG you share won't reveal where the photo was taken — a quiet privacy win.

05

Stop iPhone making HEIC

To shoot JPG directly, set Settings › Camera › Formats to "Most Compatible" — but you'll still need this tool for existing HEIC photos.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about converting HEIC to JPG

What is a HEIC file?

It's the default photo format on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. HEIC stores images at about half the size of JPG with the same quality, but it isn't widely supported outside Apple devices.

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?

To save storage space. HEIC's modern compression fits roughly twice as many photos in the same space as JPG. You can switch to JPG in Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible.

Do you upload my photos to a server?

No — this tool never uploads anything. Your HEIC photos are decoded entirely in your browser using WebAssembly, so they stay on your device — which matters a lot for personal photos.

Does converting remove my photo's GPS location?

Yes — the GPS and EXIF data is stripped. Re-encoding the image drops the embedded metadata, so the JPG you share won't carry the coordinates of where it was taken.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes — add as many as you like. There's no file-count limit because conversion is local. Download them individually, all as a ZIP, or bundled into a single PDF.

Why won't my HEIC open on Windows?

Windows has no built-in HEIC decoder. Without an extra codec, File Explorer and most apps can't read HEIC. Converting to JPG produces a file Windows opens natively.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

It's completely free with no account and no sign-up. There's no watermark, no daily cap, and no file-count or size limit beyond what your device's memory can handle.

Can I get a PNG or a PDF instead of JPG?

Yes — choose PNG output, or use Download as PDF. PNG gives lossless images with transparency, while Download as PDF bundles every converted photo into one document.
